What is a patient advocate and what do they do?
A Patient Advocate is a professional who helps patients navigate the complex healthcare system. With today’s healthcare system getting more complicated than ever before, patients and their loved ones frequently feel completely overwhelmed. At Ohio Patient Advocates, we are dedicated to helping patients receive the quality medical care they deserve, by assisting and supporting patients and their families in dealing with doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid.

How much would your services cost?
We have found that most of our clients’ issues can be resolved in a short time, with a cost range of just $90 to $120 per hour. When our services are needed to resolve a more complex situation, or over an extended period of weeks or months, the cost may begin at $950, depending on the particular situation involved. Our commitment is to provide the highest quality services at a reasonable and affordable cost, and we always provide our clients with a cost forecast up front.

Because of a recent illness, I have medical bills coming in from every direction. It’s impossible to understand a lot of these bills and I’m concerned that I’m being overcharged. Can you help me with this?
Yes. According to the Wall Street Journal, 30-40% of all medical bills contain errors. These errors can cause serious damage to your credit, with 14 million Americans burdened by medical bill errors on their credit reports. These errors include overcharges, double billing, clerical mistakes, and bills for treatment that was never received. Ohio Patient Advocates can save you potentially hundreds or even thousands of dollars by carefully cross-checking medical bills to identify errors, mistakes and inaccurate charges, and then negotiating to correct or eliminate these improper charges.

My grandmother is on her own and is starting to need help around the clock. Our family isn’t sure if in-home care, a nursing home, or assisted living is the right fit for her. Can you help us through this process?
Yes. Many families struggle with this complex dilemma. Ohio Patient Advocates starts by understanding your loved one’s unique needs, concerns and priorities. We research your options, arrange for visits of facilities, schedule necessary meetings, and interview in-home caregivers. We facilitate your decision making process by guiding you through a review of the options and their merits. We also engage in regular follow-up to make sure that the needs and goals of your loved one continue to be met.

I’m trying to care for an ailing parent. My father relies on me to schedule his appointments, take him to doctor visits, pick up medications, etc. I help as much as I can, but I also have a full-time job, children to care for, and other obligations. Could you help me with some of this so I’m not so overwhelmed?
Absolutely. We can assist with all of your loved one’s scheduling needs, medication pickups, doctor and hospital appointments, and help to make sure that his care runs smoothly, so both of you can focus on what matters most.
